Dutty Sham
Born on January 23rd 1979 on St Martin, it was quickly evident that Sham had something about him. As a youth, he looked up to his uncle who was a radio dj and club owner. At a early age, Sham was exposed to (reggae) the sounds of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Gregory Isaac, etc.. Then at 9 he heard his 1st favorite rap song « Have you seen her » by Mc Hammer and since then, it was on; rappin every chance he got, on stage, at school, everywhere.. Coming from Red Gate Agrement, known as The Ghetto, he found a lot of material for his songs; he is also a very good comedian, known for disturbing the class. He was labeled as a smart but sometimes troubled young man. At the age of 10, he started to play basket ball and was one of his team’s best defenders. But it was his freestyle ability that got him known and he was never afraid of challenging the best around, earning the title « Freestyle King ». His real break came when he got a job at a local radio station; where he quickly made the listeners laugh and dance along with the Party Krew. They became the hottest thing around, but he quickly grew tired of doing the same; and wanted to do other things like promote the local artists from St Martin and to persue his own rap career. Then Youth Radio came along and from the begining it was clear that it was a match made in heaven; in December 2006 he released Trendsetta ; that was a hit on the island, and you can still get him everyday on Youth radio, from 4 to 7, freestyling, cracking jokes and giving vibes.
