DJ Soca Superman

DJ’ing since 1990, Alvin “Keep Rockin” Toppin has earned himself quite a reputation in Barbados and wherever he travels, as one of the most versatile DJs around. Whether it’s soca, reggae, old school (funk, disco, pop, top 40, dance & ballads), golden oldies from when your parents weren’t even considering you, R & B, hip-hop, rap, alternative, there is no limit to what Alvin can & will play.

Alvin Toppin started DJ’ing in school as part of the “Ice Crew,” playing at barbeques, school fairs, term fetes, and a school competition known as the, “Music 100.” It was while attending the University of West Indies, however, that Alvin started to make a name for himself at the “The Happy Hour Limes.” Whether he’s working a nightclub, festival event, or working on Starcom Network’s Hott 95.3 FM and VOB 92.9, Alvin Toppin brings excitement in a way that makes his presence uniquely fascinating. Alvin is no ordinary DJ. He isn’t about following what others do, but rather make a lasting impression. Alvin enjoys the music that he plays and wants others to enjoy it with him. While Alvin aims to please, he caters especially to the ladies. He does his best to inspire, educate, inform, and entertain women through music as they turn on their radio. In a fete, Alvin is about keeping his crowds entertained and it’s never a dull moment. His goal is to get everyone on the dance floor. First and foremost the ladies…the men will follow.

Alvin’s versatility gives him the advantage to both entertain a crowd as a DJ as well as an MC. During the ICC World Cup Cricket Finals in 2007, Alvin was the MC for the Vintage Reggae Show and Reggae Explosion events at the Oval Entertainment Villages featuring top acts such as John Holt, Freddie McGregor, Luciano, Sanchez, Baby Cham, and Vybz Kartel. He also hosted Barbados’ Vintage Soca event featuring Gabby, Red Plastic Bag, Shadow, and David Rudder, Hott Fm’s Birthday Bash featuring Beres Hammond and Baby Cham in 2008 and Soca Sting featuring Red Plastic Bag, Mikey, Mr.Dale, Berbice & Sanelle Dempster in London, 2008 . He is also the current MC of one of Barbados’ most popoular & successful Calypso Tents – Headliners Calypso tent.

Alvin has toured the world’s major cities such as London, Barcelona, Paris, Lausanne, Amsterdam, Beilefeld, Westkapalle, Antwerp, New York & Miami mainly as the DJ of international soca star Rupee. He has also hosted a series of socacasts on www.boycevoice.com, where he interviews a number of top soca artistes. Quite knowledgeable when it comes to soca and calypso, his interviews are informative. They provide not only information on the present music, but well-thought out exchanges with the artistes in regards to the artform as well. In addition to www.boycevoice.com, you can listen to Alvin ‘Keep Rockin’ Toppin aka The Soca Superman on Barbados’ Hott 95.3 or online at: www.hott953.com
